FAQ

We planning what will be an unforgettable 57th event in Vail!  Here are answers to a few frequently asked questions to help you on your way to Vail!

Are helmets mandatory?

Helmets are mandatory at all times for all participants during skiing events associated with the Directors Invitational Ski Classic.

Where do I stay?
The Lodge at Vail and the Sonnenalp Hotel are the host hotels.   We also have a block of rooms at Gravity House. Please see lodging page for more details.

What is the Thursday Evening Benefit Night?

This evening teams will be announced and you’ll be seated with your teammates (we’ll try to include your significant other at the team table as well, if possible). Time trial data will be distributed at cocktails, so you will learn where you need to improve (and where sandbaggers get called out!) You will also learn who won the pro dash for cash. Once setaed with your team, you and your team will decide how much (of a tax deductible) cotnributin you wish to direct to bidding on your pro of choice. We will also conduct a short live auction with some extraordinary trips and ski events - as well as a paddle up opporunity to donate to some great youth ski caises. Thursday night is tour benefit night at the 10th at Mid Vail.

What's will the racing be like?
The format for the race is head-to-head team-based round robin racing. The Golden Peak race hill, while very fun and fast, will provide comfort to novice skiers, yet fun competitive racing for expert skiers.

Are Thursday Time Trials Mandatory?
If this is your first DISC event, or you haven’t skied at a DISC event in over two (2) years, time trials are MANDATORY on Thursday morning to race - as is participation at the Thursday evening team and Pro selection event.

Can I Race Only One Day?

No. You will be racing on Friday and Saturday. If you leave a day early, you’re team will be absorbing 4 losses - and will likely not podium! (there are great prizes for 1st,2nd and 3rd palce teams).

How do I know what pro will be on my team?
Every team will include one pro and at least one DISC Director. Teams are created Thursday afternoon after handicapping. Teams will be posted at the cocktail party that evening.

What should I wear?
Our dress code for the evening parties is generally casual - with the exception of Thursday and Saturday night when everyone may want to take it up a notch. Please see the Schedule page for Party Themes.

Wednesday (Welcome Reception): Come as you are! Casual attire
Thursday (Benefit Night): Theme: Team USA, Red, White and Blue
Friday (Tequila Party): Theme: 80’s Rock and Roll baby
Saturday (Awards Dinner & Closing Party): Theme: Venecian Masquerade

For skiing and racing, layering is the key. The weather in the mountains can be tricky. Average temperatures during the day are between 30 and 45. But anything is possible. Nighttime lows are usually in the high teens.

Are my meals included in my entry fee?
All evening events/meals from Wednesday through Saturday are included in both racer and guest entry fees. All lunches on Thursday, Friday and Saturday are also included.

How do I cancel my registration?
All entry fees are non-refundable. We STRONGLY encourage you to purchase cancellation travel insurance (try the aggregator Squaremouth.com for quotes). Depending on when you cancel, and your hotel's policy, you may or may not have to pay a cancellation fee. We unfortunately do not have the authority to influence hotel policies or fees.

To cancel your event registration, please contact Debra Doyle at 970-618-5750 or disc@directorscup.com but please be aware that your entry fee will not be refunded.

To cancel your hotel reservations, you must deal directly with the hotel. We do not have the authority to do this for you.
